Tour: "The British Cemetery at Etaples-sur-Mer"

Between 1915 and 1919, the British General Staff established its facilities behind the front lines, along the French coast. A massive military and hospital camp was established in Étaples-sur-Mer; today, its only visible remnant is the military cemetery, the largest of the Commonwealth forces in France. This camp required the deployment of extensive infrastructure to meet the needs of thousands of soldiers in transit, the wounded, and the camp personnel. The guide will introduce you to the history of the site, its architecture, and the layout of the 10,729 graves of soldiers from the British Empire, which overlook the Canche River…
